Step Behind the Veil: A Conversation with James Morris
Join us for an intimate Artist Talk with photographer and filmmaker James Morris (he/him) as he unpacks the process, emotion, and intention behind his striking contribution to Silent Veil, a curated exhibition exploring themes of concealment, transformation, and abstraction.
Based on unceded Naarm land, James’ work blends boldness with vulnerability, shaped by his Lebanese-Australian heritage, his queer identity, and a deep commitment to inclusion, ethical storytelling, and the power of representation.
For Silent Veil, James has created a compelling body of work that blurs the boundary between fashion and art. This talk offers a rare window into the emotional and technical process behind his images, as well as the personal storylines that informed his creative choices.
Whether you're an artist, image-maker, or simply someone who values art with creativity and heart, this is a chance to connect with one of Naarm's most thoughtful emerging voices in visual culture.
About the Artist
James Morris is a queer Australian/Lebanese photographer and filmmaker. Inspired early on by his grandfather—a fashion designer and photographer—James was gifted his first film camera as a child, sparking a lifelong love of imagery and storytelling. His work celebrates the intersections of fashion, music, and art, always focusing on diversity, authenticity, and underrepresented communities.
